EA PS Vita 'has a better chance than 3DS
PlayStation Vita has "a better chance" of success than Nintendo's troubled 3DS, reckons EA Labels president Frank Gibeau. Speaking to CVG in Cologne last week, the former EA Games boss predicted that Sony's combination of innovation, technology and a strong software line-up will give the platform holder a smoother experience than Nintendo, which was forced to introduce a 3DS price cut less than five months after launch."I think that part of the videogame business is tough right now because they have had some significant competition come in that was totally disruptive, and that was the smartphone," Gibeau said."I think [Sony has] got a shot because they have some really unique innovation in the control scheme, the technology and the screen. It's got a lot of social features now so that you can actually communicate with your friends and be social. "You can't ring them up by putting the device up to your ear but in general I think they've got most of the capabilities that you'd find in a smart phone, with some unique capabilities that make them stand out."The EA Labels president said Vita's software line-up will have the edge on Nintendo's handheld."I don't think they're quite in the same boat as the 3DS... the 3DS was a really interesting piece of technology but I think there was some confusion over it and the title slate was a little different," he said. "I think Vita has a better chance because it has a stronger title slate at launch. PSP's had a great run in Europe as a device, it seems to have reached a much larger audience here than it did in North America. So I think they've got a good shot. We're going to publish a few games on it and see how it develops."In the same interview, the EA Labels president told CVG the publisher is looking to re-imagine and bring back "a couple" of classic franchises. Rollercoaster Tycoon rolling to 3DS - fir
Atari/Namco Bandai has confirmed the revival of theme park building sim Roller Coaster Tycoon,福州担保, which is winging its way to 3DS next year. We remember playing Theme Park for hours on our Super Nintendos,福州贷款, but if you were more into PC gaming in the late '90s you might remember the brilliant Rollercoaster Tycoon. The full 3D theme park sim,福州担保公司, which has sold 11 million units since its release in 1999, lets you build a full theme park an almost overwhelming number of options and a deep rollercoaster customisation tool. Blizzard defends Diablo 3 real-money auct
Blizzard has revealed that Diablo 3 will have a new auction house feature that will let player buy and sell items with real money. Blizzard executive VP Rob Pardo made the announcement at a recent presentation, explaining that the feature comes in reaction to the thriving black markets that saw people exchanging items for real cash with previous Diablo games. Instead of trying to stop real cash purchases,防近视眼笔, Diablo 3 embraces it,防近视笔, he explained. "People were going to do it anyway,预防近视笔, and this way it's secure," he said, later defending the feature against the suggestion players could spend more time in the auction room than actually playing the game. "As long as players are having fun, whatever they're doing, I consider that a success," he said. Players can list anything from weapons, armour, gold or even characters themselves in an auction house and sell them to other players for real-world moolah. Players will be able to make a limited number of free listing per week, but otherwise Blizzard will charge a small fee and take a cut of the final sale amount. Blizzard also revealed that the game will require a constant online connection to be played.

AAA retail model 'crushing innovation' -
Heavenly Sword, Enslaved and DmC developer Ninja Theory says it can't wait for digital distribution to take centre stage, claiming that the current "big retail model is creaking". When asked by GamesIndustry.biz about the possibility of the developer working on multiple smaller titles rather than one big one at any given time, creative chief Tameem Antoniades said that something has to give both at his own company and in the industry more generally."It's something we talk about often," he said, "We're in this kind of AAA bracket, I guess you could call it."High budget, high stakes retail model - the barriers to entry for that are so high, so difficult, that we seem to be getting, being offered, decent work in that area. It's hard to say no when you've got a team of 100 and you have to keep the payroll going. Another big project comes along, you tend to go for it. "There's always an opportunity between projects to explore things, a lot of team members are hobbyists, they create their own iPhone games and things like that so I can see us kind of taking a punt with that," he continued. "The whole digital revolution is happening now and it can't come soon enough. The model we're under, the big retail model, is creaking."It's such an opportunity for fun creative games to reach a target audience, there's this stranglehold that the AAA retail model has which I think is just crushing innovation and access to creative content."If you're paying that much for a game, you don't want to take chances. You want everything to be there, all the feature sets. You want it to be a known experience, guaranteed fun. That's not healthy."The health hazards of a AAA dominated industry were considered by Naughty Dog co-founder Jason Rubin last year, who came to pretty much the same conclusion as Antoniades. Katamari Damacy Announced For The PlaySta
Katamari DamacyNews (1)PreviewsReviewVideosScreenshotsCheats and Walkthroughs Namco Bandai announced that a new version of Katamari Damacy is coming for the PlayStation Vita. The game is just called Katamari Damacy for now, and according to Namco, the game "will use the console’s unique front touch screen and rear touch pad to bring fingertip control to the series for the first time."You'll once again be playing as the adorable Prince as the King of All Cosmos sends you on tasks to roll up just about everything. You'll be rolling up items large and small, inanimate and alive, from ants all the way up Mount Fuji. With the Vita version of the game, you'll be able to use the rear touch pad of the system to stretch the ball horizontally or vertically to pick up more objects or squeeze through gaps. I love every single Katamari Damacy game and find them all equally charming and hilarious. With the new gameplay elements that allow you to stretch the ball around, I'm sure the team will put out something even more imaginative than ever before.
