Reform agenda

A spokesman for Sweet & Maxwell said there did appear to have been "a last-minute push" from Labour.

"As part of their pre-election pledge, the Conservatives had announced that they would introduce less new laws," he said.

"Commentators have questioned how easy it will be for the coalition to implement their comprehensive reform agenda without having to increase substantial amounts of new legislation.

"Business lobby groups in particular will be keeping a close eye on how closely the government sticks to its promise."

Among the laws passed between January and May last year were the Equality Act, which gives employees new protections against discrimination at work, and the Digital Economy Act, which obliges internet service providers to disconnect persistent illegal file-sharers.

Chinese President Hu Jintao has expressed satisfaction with graduate students from Peking University whrift platinumo volunteered to teach in the western regions.

Hu wrote back to 18 volunteers on May 10, after he received a letter from the students who are now teaching in west China' s Tibet, Qinghai, Yunnan and Xinjiang.

Peking University has been sending graduate students to teach in rural areas since 1999, and has so far dispatched 12 groups with 163 members. Each student spent one year during the mission, and the service hours of all the volunteers has totalled 350,000.

Nourishing Yin and saving up Yang

During the coldest period of the year, a person’s diet should always focus on nourishing Yin and saving up Yang. More bitter and less salty food is good for the heart and kidney, while food which is stodrift goldgy and raw or cold should not be eaten too much. Otherwise a person’s spleen and stomach could be damaged. One should not over indulging in dry, heated food. The flavor of the food can be a little thick and could contain a certain amount of lipid which can help people keep warm. Furthermore, people who eat more Kelly vegetables like carrots and spinach can become healthier. Because the major cold period butts up against the spring festival, it is common for families to prepare festive foods. At this time, people need to avoid eating too much or too little. At the same time, they can eat more food like yam roottera gold, hawkthorn and grapefruit. People can also drink more millet congee or congee which can strengthen the spleen and clear mositure to nurse their health.

Salsa

Salsa’s origins are fluid, but scholars say the term started circulating in the 1960s to describe the new Latin musical styles New York City musicians created by fusing a “broad range of musical genres, instrumental combinations, and cultural influences.” Latin Beat magazine says musicians used to call out “salsa!” (hot sauce) during really hot jams. While most consider Cuban son montuno as salsa’s primary inspiration, New York salsa musi-cians also incorporated other elements such as Afro-Cuban percussion instruments, be-bop, Dominican merengue, bata drums from the ritual music of Cuban santeria and stylistic features from Puerto Rican bomba and plena music.

Nonstandard English

A varirift goldation of conventional English vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation that is so widely used as to constitute a vernacular. Generally used in the United States by distinct, minority socioeconomic groups, such as African Americans, Chicanos, Creoles, isolated mountain communities and so on, nonstandard English differs significantly from regional variations in English in that it is often unintelligible to speakers of conventional English. Examples of nonstandard English include BLACK ENGLtera goldISH and calypso English. Children and adults who learn nonstandard English as their native tongue, whether American- or foreign-born, have significant difficulties adapting to the use of conventional language in school.

Industrial Suburbs

Suburbs are independently incorporated municipalities or districts on the fringes or outskirts of cities, and industrial or manufacturing suburbs are a special type. Historically, industrial suburbs were classified separately from manufacturing suburbs. According to Victor Jones, communities were classified as industrial rather than manufacturing if more than 30 percent of local jobs are in retail trades—making industrial communities more diversified than manufacturing communities. The terms are now used interchangeably as industrial suburbs have evolved and changed since World War II.

Today, industrial suburbs are specialized places of employment that feature manufacturing or industrial jobs. Thus, all suburbs in which 50 percent or more of the local jobs are in manufacturing or industry are classified as either industrial or manufacturing suburbs. This is so even if the percentage of workers employed in retail trade exceeds 30 percent of all local employment. In whatever combination, manufacturing institutions must provide the majority of the employment opportunities. Additionally, the value added to the local economy from adjusted manufacturing value of product sales must exceed that of total retail sales and banking and finance.

Children’s rights

Rights
Human rights are fundamental to an individual’s existence, they are not luxuries. Everybody is enrift goldtitled to have their human rights respected. Human rights aim to protect all people and provide for their full development. With rights come responsibilities to ensure that we do not infringe on the rights of others.

Convention on the Rights of the Child
History
There are many international legal documents outlining human rights. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, agreed to unanimously by the United Nations General Assembly on 10 December 1948, sets out the basic rights and freedoms of all people.

Children have the right to special protection because of their defencelessness against mistrearift goldtment. The first United Nations statement devoted exclusively to the rights of children was the Declaration on the Rights of the Child, adopted in 1959. This was a moral rather than a legally binding document. In 1989 the legally binding Convention on the Rights of the Child was adopted by the United Nations. In 54 articles the Convention incorporates the whole spectrum of human rights – civil, political, economic, social and cultural – and sets out the specific ways these should be ensured for children and young people. In May 2000, two Optional Protocols, one on the involvement of children in armed conflict and a second on the sale of children, child prostitution and child pornography, were adopted to strengthen the provisions of the Convention in those areas.

Thailand, Cambodia Agree to Indonesian Observers at Border

Ahead of a regional summit, Indonesia's foreign minister has said Thailand and Cambodia agreed to allow Indonesian monitors to go rift gold to the border between the two countries to help prevent further military clashes.

In his role as the chairman of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Indonesian Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa on Friday said there has been a breakthrough in ASEAN's efforts to mediate an end to the Thai-Cambodia border conflict.

"I can report to all tera gold of you that the two sides have agreed to the terms of reference for the observer team, the Indonesian observer team that we have been discussing for several weeks now," said Natalegawa. "That is a done thing in the sense that the negotiations have been concluded. Cambodia has formally acceded or formally agreed to the terms of reference. Thailand has also agreed to it but they are yet to fully conclude the formal exchange of documents."

The terms of rift platinum reference include how many Indonesian observers will be dispatched and the specific areas along the border where they will operate.

Who were the Populists?

While organized labor inched painfully toward acceptance, the other people who suffered most from the economic upheavals of the period were the farmers. The millions of small farmers, principally in America’s West and South, were at the rift gold mercy of many forces besides the weather that they were unable to control: eastern banks controlled credit; manufacturing monopolies controlled the price of machinery; eastern railroad trusts set freight prices; depression wiped out land values and sent crop prices spiraling downward. With the population booming and mechanization increasing farm efficiency, it should have been a time of plenty. Instead, farmers were being squeezed tighter and tighter, forced to sell their lands at panic prices and move tera gold to factory jobs in the cities.

But a backlash set in, producing a wave of farm belt radicalism that swept the country. Locally it produced farmers’ organizations called Granges that gained sufficient political clout to press for reforms, although many of these, rift platinum like the Interstate Commerce Commission, proved to be unloaded guns in the war against monopolies. In the South, for the first time since the end of the Civil War, poor blacks and working-class white farmers began to see that they shared common problems and interests, and the beginnings of an alliance of black and white farmers emerged. The farmers also reached out to join with city workers to form a powerful new alliance that could transform American politics.

ASEAN Summit Highlights Economic Gains, Political Growing Pains

Leaders of the 10 member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations began a two day summit in Jakarta Saturday. The rift platinum organization has made progress in creating an economic trading block, but still faces great challenges in finding common ground on political and security matters.

All the ASEAN heads of state, with the exception of Singapore, are participating in the Jakarta summit. Singapore's prime minister stayed at home to await the results of the election there.

Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono opened the summit and endorsed ASEAN's recent efforts to mediate peace between two member states, Thailand and Cambodia, that have been fighting since February.

The two countries tera gold moved closer to ending an ongoing border conflict Friday, when both sides agreed in principle to accept 15 Indonesian observers in the conflict zone. Thai and Cambodia troops have been exchanging gun and artillery fire in a dispute over an area surrounding an ancient Hindu Khmer Temple that both countries claim.

President Yudhoyono also cited the challenges the region faces, such as soaring food and energy prices, the threat of terrorism rift gold and natural disasters that frequently strike in southeast Asia. He said ASEAN needs to become a more coherent and effective force to respond to these threats and maintain peace and stability in the region

That Awkward Silence; It Takes Just Four Seconds to Get There

We've all experienced it -- that awkward pause in the middle of a conversation. You know the one that maybe follows an odd comment that causes everyone to look around and try to think of something to say. Or maybe it's the deadend of the conversation on a first date,Rift Gold and you can't think of anything else to ask or talk about. What's going on here?

Namkje Koudenburg, a Dutch psychologist at the University of Groningen, may have uncovered the reasoning behind this common and dreaded social scenario and why it takes us just four seconds to get to the point of awkwardness. According to Koudenburg, a flowing conversation provides people with a sense of belonging and self-esteem.

"Social needs can be satisfied in a flowing conversation, such as the need to belong, the need to feel self-assured, RIFT Platinumand the need for social validation," said Koudenburg in her study.

"When you have a silence like that, it's latent with negative feelings," adds Dr. Bonnie Jacobson, author, clinical psychologist, relationships expert and spokeswoman for the American Psychological Association. "Awkwardness means that everyone knows there's something that someone's not saying."

Koudenburg and her colleagues conducted two experiments to determine the effect of silence on social needs. In the first, rift gold researchers observed 102 subjects during scripted conversations in which individuals were given a scenario to read. During the exchange, a selected individual was scripted to interject a controversial comment. The test subjects who imagined the conversation with a brief pause felt more anxious, rejected and less self-assured.

The group that smoothly carried the conversation through the odd remark reported feelings of agreement and also expressed that their opinions felt more reinforced.

Here's the kicker -- there was not any actual difference in what was said in the two conversations.RIFT Platinum Both groups experienced the same conversation. The only difference was the awkward pause.

The second experiment involved showing test subjects a video of two conversations. In one video, the conversation proceeded smoothly; however, the other video exhibited a conversation broken by a brief silence lasting four seconds. Test subjects who watched the video of the broken conversation reported feeling less self-assurance, rejection and exclusion.

All results pointed to the conclusion that people are particularly sensitive to rejection signals from their peers. Researchers suggest this may be the result of the evolutionary importance of individual survival among groups. Kodenburg concluded that a pleasant flow of conversation helps give people a sense of belonging as well as a sense of social validation.

So what do you do next time you find yourself the victim of an awakwrd pause in conversation? When it happens,TERA Gold Koudenburg suggests that conversation participants take time to establish and address what brought about the pause instead of trying to rush through the uncomfortable moment. She also reminds us to keep in mind that everyone who is experiencing this slight social hiccup is also feeling uncomfortable just like you.

Jacobson says that when she is involved in a conversation where there is an awkward silence, she will interject with a comment like "No one is talking much" or "Someone's not saying something ..."

"It just lightens things," Jacobson explains. "At least you're acknowledging that there's an elephant in the room, and you won't walk out feeling awkward."

Powerful Non-Addictive Painkiller May Be 'Ready' in a Year, Researchers Say

A potent new prescription painkiller free of side effects and addictive properties could be only a year or two away from hitting the market.

At least, that's the lofty promise of a group of Stony Brook University scientists, who say their drug won't be habit-forming -- like existing opiate-based painkillers including Percocet,Rift Gold Vicodin and others -- because it doesn't engage the central nervous system.

Instead, it works through different pathways involving peripheral nerves.

"This offers a major paradigm shift in the control of pain," one of the researchers, Simon Halegoua, said in a statement.RIFT Platinum "Since the central nervous system is taken out of the equation, there would be no side effects and no addictive qualities."

But AOL Health's addiction expert, Dr. Petros Levounis, thinks that's a tall order.

"You cannot really say that," Levounis, the director of The Addiction Institute of New York at St. Luke's and Roosevelt Hospitals, told AOL Health. "We have been burned in the past. We have had medications that were touted as non-addictive."

He cited the painkiller Ultram (generic name Tramadol),rift gold the sleeping pill Ambien (Zolpidem) and the sexual enhancer Viagra (Sildenafil) as drugs marketed as non-habit-forming that turned out to be either physically or psychologically addictive.

In their research, Halegoua, a Stony Brook professor of neurobiology and behavior, and his colleagues identified a new channel, PN1 (short for peripheral neuron 1), that factors into transmitting pain.

They're set to work developing a drug that would block the pathway, which they predicted would alleviate pain. That's different from the way traditional prescription painkillers work.

"When a patient is given an opiate like morphine, pain signals are still transmitted from sensory nerves to the central nervous system," Halegoua said. RIFT Platinum"Morphine action throughout the brain reduces and alters pain perception, but it also impairs judgment and results in drug dependence."

With the new class of medications, he said, pain signals wouldn't be transmitted at all, which he and his team believe will erase the risk of addiction and other side effects. Drugs based on their research are currently in clinical trials in Canada, England and the United States, he said.

In spite of his reservations about the scientists' claims, Levounis said the work is a positive step forward.

"It's promising -- it's good to see research on this important matter," he said. "Very, very importantly, the issue of the addictiveness of opioids has been appreciated now more than in the past, which is a major accomplishment."

He characterized the practice of prescribing opiates to people with legitimate pain "the biggest mistake in medical history I can think of" because they are so addictive, TERA Goldeven for those who have no history of drug or alcohol problems.

"We have about 2 million people who in the past month were abusing or flat-out dependent on prescription opioid pills," he told AOL Health. "That's compared to 400,000 on heroin."

Eating Salty Snacks Damages Arteries Within 30 Minutes

Most of us love salty snacks like French fries and potato chips, even though we also know they're bad for us. Rift GoldBut a new study finds that high-sodium foods may be worse than we think -- and can damage the arteries within just 30 minutes of eating them.

Researchers in Australia say that salt-laden treats can rapidly stop blood vessels from dilating, even in people with normal blood pressure.

Kacie M. Dickinson and her colleagues at the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization in Adelaide monitored 16 healthy people, giving half a serving of low-salt tomato soup and the other half the same soup with 10 times more salt.

The researchers then switched the groups,RIFT Platinum giving participants who got a lower amount of sodium during the first round a higher dose in round two and vice versa.

After each serving, the study authors measured participants' arteries using ultrasound. They found that the arteries of those who consumed more salt widened about half as much as those who ate a less salty meal, rift gold resulting in restricted blood flow. The effects wore off in about two hours, according to the findings published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

"The important thing about the study is that it adds to the evidence that sodium has both immediate and chronic effects on blood vessels," Dr. Sahil Parikh, an interventional cardiologist at University Hospitals Case Medical Center, told AOL Health.

The scientists were able to detect changes in blood vessel function -- which indicates early-stage atherosclerosis, a condition in which fat builds up in the blood vessels.RIFT Platinum That can lead to blood vessels blockages, which can result in heart attack or stroke.

When the heart pumps blood through the arteries, it produces a gas called nitric oxide, which causes the artery walls to relax and allows them to constrict or dilate when needed. Scientists believe that salt may somehow block the release of nitric oxide, making the artery walls harden for a brief period of time.

Though Parikh doesn't believe the Australian researchers broke any new ground, "what they have found is consistent with other studies," he said. "High salt diets are discouraged because they are a root cause of hypertension. TERA GoldThis study confirms our belief that patients with cardiovascular disease should consume a low sodium diet."

So what are salty snack lovers to do? Parikh suggests following the recommended guidelines of two grams of sodium per day. People who work out and exercise on a daily basis may need slightly more salt in their diet, he said.

Home Exchange Vacations: Why Pay to Stay When You Can Swap Houses?

Summer is around the corner, but vacation budgets for many families are tight. TERA Gold But a bit of belt-tightening doesn't have to mean giving up your dream vacation if you're able to escape the costs of a hotel and car rental. Now could be the time to take a leap of faith and try a home exchange or swap.

The practice dates back more 50 years, but its popularity has grown rapidly since the start of the Great Recession. For example, the largest exchange site, HomeExchange.com, has grown to 42,000 members so far this year -- up from 20,000 in 2008, when the markets began their descent and the economy cratered.

That growth should come as no surprise. RIFT Platinum A family of four visiting Paris can spend roughly $5,000 for a single hotel room with double beds over a two-week period. In a home exchange, that cost drops to zero. Then there's the $500 to $600 it would cost to rent a car for that period -- another expense that could be eliminated if both parties are willing to loan each other their vehicles. rift gold According to Ed Kushins, president of HomeExchange.com, approximately 20% of all home exchanges also include a car exchange.

But swapping homes or apartments isn't for everyone, cautions Joe Murray, director of KnowYourTrade.com, a home exchange review and information site. Would-be travelers need to ask themselves how comfortable they'd be knowing a stranger is in their home, even though they would be staying at that person's residence. RIFT Platinum Someone who's likely to fret constantly that a visitor might be going through their underwear drawer or breaking into their locked file cabinets will have a hard time feeling relaxed on their vacation, he says.

Some home exchange information sites like Camago even offer a quiz people can take to see if their attitude toward traveling would be a good fit for a home-exchange arrangement.

Those initial concerns, however, may be eased as the parties exchange emails and phone calls with information about their respective homes, neighborhoods,
Rift Gold local sites and friends and neighbors who would be available to ask questions, notes Kushins.

Here are some tips on how to jump into exchanging homes or apartments with total strangers in other countries or other states when embarking on a vacation, and how to avoid potential pitfalls, according to home exchange experts.

UFC 129: Ben Henderson Beats Mark Bocek

In the UFC debut the former World Extreme Cagefighting lightweight champion,
Rift Gold Ben Henderson won a unanimous decision over Mark Bocek at UFC 129.

All three judges scored the fight 30-27 for Henderson, who improved his MMA record to 13-2.

"Where ever the fight took place, rift gold if he's on top of me, if I'm on top of him, if we trade knees and elbows, I'm ready for anything," Henderson said after the fight.

It was an impressive showing through three rounds for Henderson, RIFT Platinum who managed to avod danger on the ground with Bocek, a submission specialist. Henderson also managed to hurt Bocek with punches on the ground, and in the stand-up there was no comparison: Henderson was the vastly superior fighter.

For Bocek, whose record drops to 9-4, the loss was disappointing, as he showed that he doesn't have many weapons in his arsenal when he's not able to pull off a submission. TERA Gold Henderson stayed safe from being threatened by Bocek's Brazilian jiu jitsu, and that made this a one-sided fight.

Ptolemy (Ptolemy of Alexandria; Claudius Ptolemaeus) (ca. A.D. 90–ca. A.D. 150)

Hellenized Egyptian geographer, astronomer, mathematician in ancient Alexandria, Egypt

A hellenized Egyptian, Ptolemy was a native of Alexandria, Egypt, rift gold and a leading scholar and scientist among that city’s Greek intellectual community in the second century A.D. His exact heritage is not known. He may have had Egyptian, Greek, or Roman ancestry, or a combination. He conducted studies in and wrote works on mathematics, astronomy, and geography.

From A.D. 127 to 147, Ptolemy produced an eight-volume work summarizing the geography of the known world. Known as Geographia, or Introduction to the Description of the Earth, it includes a compilation of 8,000 places, along with their coordinates of LATITUDE and LONGITUDE, with relative distances obtained from travel reports and some astronomical observations.

Like other learned Greeks of his day, Ptolemy conceived the world as spherical, although he rejected the notion that all the lands on Earth were surrounded by a great “Ocean Stream,”rift gold and instead suggested that uncharted lands could be located across the unexplored seas. Ptolemy’s Geographia was fairly accurate about the Mediterranean region and correctly located Ireland as lying west of Britain. His northernmost point, known as ULTIMA THULE, has since been hypothesized as one of Scotland’s Shetland Islands. He also mentions eastern Europe’s Volga River and makes the first known reference to the Carpathian Mountains. He was also aware of the lands of western China, citing that region as the ultimate source of silk that was transported along the SILK ROAD.Much of his work was drawn from earlier Greek geographers, including Marinus of Tyre and STRABO.

Chinese calligraphy introduction

Chinese calligraphy is a unique gem of Oriental culture. Graphically, it is comparable to painting in its ability to express emotion through a rich variety of form and design. As abstract art, it displays the rhythmic and harmonious flow of music. And from a practical point of view, it is written language.
Tradition
Writing is a tangible representation of spoken language. The composition of Chinese characters is divided into six basic categories:(1)hsiang hsing, direct pictorial representation; (2)chih shih, symbolic renderings of abstract ideas; (3)hui yi, a combination of pictorial elements with symbolic renderings of abstract ideas; (4)hsing sheng, rift gold a combination of phonetic and pictorial elements; (5)chia chieh, a character used only for its phonetic value to represent an unrelated homophone or near-homophone; and (6)chuan chu, a character which has taken on a new meaning, and an alternate or modified written form has been assigned to the original meaning. These methods of composing Chinese characters are referred to as the Liu Shu, or "Six Writing Methods".
With the "four treasures of the study" as tools, and through the medium of lines, China's calligraphers have developed uncounted different calligraphic styles over the centuries. However, this plethora of diverse styles can be grouped into five basic categories: Chuan Shu, Seal Script; Li Shu, Official Script; K'ai Shu, Regular Script; Hsing Shu, Running Script; and Ts'ao Shu, which literally means "Grass" Script, but is usually referred to as Cursive Script.
Each style is unique yet similar to every other style. In the Seal Script style, vertical and horizontal lines are fine, uniform, forceful, and tend to be slightly pointed on the ends. The Official Script style emerged to deal with the growing number of official written documents. The style could be executed quickly because it consisted of extremely straight vertical and horizontal lines and a tight structure. And even though it was designed by modifying the Seal style, it was considerably faster to right. The Regular Script was developed during the Han dynasty (206 B.C.-220 A.D.) based on the Official Script. Because it was even more convenient than the Official Script style, the Regular Script style was used for everyday purposes in the Han Dynasty. The Running Script is a cross between the Regular Script and Cursive Script, and its name come from the "running" manner in which it is executed. The "Grass" or Cursive Script features a simplified structure, the running together of strokes, rapidly written and flowing lines, and a low level of legibility. A Chinese Saying expresses the beauty of the Cursive Script: "The writing stops but the meaning goes on; the brush has been put down but the power is unending".
Chinese calligraphy is not only a practical tool of everyday living but also along with traditional Chinese painting compromises the mainstream of China's art history. All kinds of people have avidly collected works of fine calligraphy. And works of calligraphy are to be found everywhere you look: on shop and government office building signs, on monuments, and in stone inscriptions. All of these examples of Chinese calligraphy have supreme artistic value.

The Present
Today, as in the past, rift gold calligraphers are often literati as well as artists. Their calligraphic works may include renderings of their own poems, lyrics, couplets, or letters; or those of famous masters. It is obvious Chinese scholars still place great importance on calligraphy. In China, calligraphy is a major subject from elementary to high school and even in post secondary schools. Calligraphy clubs and associations are popular in all regions, and calligraphy receives strong support from various foundations. In this technological information age, it is encouraging and satisfying to note the enthusiastic public interest that Chinese calligraphy continues to generate.

Baidu offers many services, rift gold including a Chinese search engine for websites, audio files, and images. Baidu offers 57 search and community services including Baidu Baike, an online collaboratively-built encyclopedia, and a searchable keyword-based discussion forum. Baidu was established in 2000 by co-founders, Robin Li and Eric Xu. Both of the co-founders are Chinese nationals who have studied and worked overseas before returning to China. Baidu.com Inc. is registered in the Cayman Islands. In February 2011, Baidu ranked 66th overall in Alexa's internet rankings. During Q4 of 2010 it is estimated that there were 4.02 billion search queries in China of which Baidu had a market share of 56.6%.

In December 2007, Baidu became the first Chinese company to be included in the NASDAQ-100 index.Baidu provides an index of over 740 million web pages, 80 million images, and 10 million multimedia files.[10] Baidu offers multi-media content including MP3 music and movies, and is the first in China to offer WAP and PDA-based mobile search.

Baidu proactively censors its content in line with government regulations. Many of Baidu's services, including ideas and interfaces, are obvious imitation of Google's.

"Many people have asked about the meaning of our name. 'Baidu' was inspired by a poem written more than 800 years ago during the Song Dynasty. The poem compares the search for a retreating beauty amid chaotic glamour with the search for one's dream while confronted by life's many obstacles. '...hundreds and thousands of times, for her I searched in chaos, suddenly, I turned by chance, to where the lights were waning, and there she stood.' Baidu, whose literal meaning is hundreds of times, represents persistent search for the ideal.”—Robin Li

The name "Baidu" is a quote from the last line of Xin Qiji's classical poem "Green Jade Table in The Lantern Festival" saying: "Having searched for her hundreds and thousands of times in the crowd, suddenly turning back by chance, rift gold I find her there in the dimmest candlelight."

The context of the poem is that in ancient China, girls had to stay indoors and the Lantern Festival was one of the few times they could come out. In the sea and chaos of lantern lights, they would sneak away to meet their love and exchange promises to meet again next year.

A summary of the entire poem: Flowers bursting into bloom in the sky, stars falling like rain (fireworks/meteor shower), Whole streets filled with perfume, jeweled horses pulling ornate carriages, fish and dragon lanterns dancing throughout the entire night. A body decorated with golden thread and butterfly trinket, laughter that has a subtle fragrance. Having searched for this person until exhaustion, when suddenly turning back by chance, I find her standing lonely in the far end of the street in the waning light.

Real Estate Tough Sell: The Too-Custom Home

Not that long ago, pretty much the greatest status symbol you could own was a trophy house: a home so highly customized that it shouted to the world just how special you were. Today, those same indulgences--the rooftop pools, bathrooms without doors and rooms with see-through glass floors--are the white elephants of the higher-end real estate marketplace.Rift Gold Let's face it: One man's moat with stepping stones is another man's, "Uh, how do you bring the groceries in from the car?"

It's not that unique features aren't fabulous, it's just that leaving too big a personal imprint--the koi pond filled with rescued sea turtles--can be an impediment in this buyers-rule market. It doesn't matter whether you're a celebrity or Joe Normal trying to sell your tract house: Experts say this is no time for purple dining-room walls and computerized toilet seats.RIFT Platinum The credo that every house will sell if the price is right may be meeting the ultimate test with one current property--a San Francisco Victorian with a 16-by-7-foot chlorine swimming pool in the living room.

Listing agent Joe Marko, of Paragon Real Estate Group, says the Noe Valley house, on the market for $1.799 million, has gotten a lot of attention. About half of those who've come to view the place like the idea of a water feature in the living room. Other potential buyers--particularly parents of young children--have expressed concerns about safety. (The property is co-listed with Paragon's Rafael Acevedo.)

If a buyer likes everything else about a house except for one feature, whether it's a pool in the middle of the living space or something more mundane, Marko says his challenge is to show them how to rectify what they don't like.rift gold In this case, he says, they can just fill in the pool.

Agents trying to sell a home with features installed to meet one owner's very particular needs and tastes often struggle with the question of whether to highlight them or play them down.

That's the challenge facing Chad Rogers. The Hilton & Hyland Beverly Hills agent and former star on Bravo's "Million Dollar Listing" is the latest in a string of agents to list the unusual--if beautiful--eco-chic home designed by and for world-renowned photographer Douglas Busch. Listing price is $9,495,000, down from a high of $15 million in 2007.

The estate has been described as "high-end housing's epitome of a green, clean, self-sustainable machine." Is going green and a $5.5 million drop from the original price enough to sell the spread, which sits on 10 acres overlooking the Pacific Ocean? Would you grab your checkbook if we said the property's three structures are all made of sustainable steel and glass, and Busch has only allowed all-natural cleaners in the home?RIFT Platinum If size matters, the house has the third-largest private residential pool (110,000 gallons) in all of Los Angeles County, a place with a certain affinity for both size and pools.

Or would the retractable roof over the master bedroom be a deal-breaker? How about the studio/guest house, surrounded by water and accessible only by stepping stones?

Rogers says that to build this property today--if the Coastal Commission would even allow it--would cost $15 million. He underscores the drought-resistant landscaping and the careful attention to details. It's not a property for everyone, he acknowledges.TERA Gold But he sees it as a home for someone--someone with refined tastes, a commitment to green, and an appreciation for a showplace.

The hardest homes to sell are those that were built with one person in mind, says Susan Monus, a Coldwell Banker agent who sells high-end homes in Malibu, many of them one-of-a-kind. "Today's high-end market consists of investors looking for steals and people with money who want a trophy property. But they want their own trophy property, not somebody else's."

Owners of highly personalized listings can take comfort in knowing that even the over-the-top Bel-Air home built by Wilt Chamberlain in 1971 and where he lived until his death in 1999 eventually sold. Chamberlain had put in a gold-lined hot tub, a retractable mirror over the master bed and had a wraparound swimming pool that ran through the living room.

Caveman Diet Information

Overview
The Caveman Diet is a nickname for the Paleolithic Diet (Paleo Diet for short). On a Paleo diet, you eat the kinds of foods our remote hunter-gatherer ancestors ate, such as meat, fish, eggs, nuts, vegetables, fruits and mushrooms, and avoid most cultivated grains, dairy products, salt, refined sugar and processed fats.

Who Promotes It?
In 1985, radiologist Dr. S. Boyd Eaton and anthropologist Melvin Konner of Emory University attracted media and academic attention when they published a paper on paleolithic nutrition in the "New England Journal of Medicine" and followed up with a book, Rift Gold "The Paleolithic Prescription: A Program of Diet & Exercise and a Design for Living." Loren Cordain, a professor in the Department of Health and Exercise Science at Colorado State University and author of "The Paleo Diet" and "The Paleo Diet for Athletes," is another well-known promoter of the Caveman Diet.

Philosophy
During the 2.5 million years of the Paleolithic Period, people ate only wild plants and animals that they hunted. About 10,000 years ago with the development of agriculture and animal husbandry, RIFT Platinum the human diet changed--for the worse, says Cordain. He claims that genetically, we have never adapted to a modern agricultural and industrial diet of grains, refined carbohydrates, dairy products, trans fats and sodium-heavy processed foods.

Foods
Eaton advocates getting about 35 percent of your daily calories from fats, 35 percent from carbohydrates and 30 percent from protein. Cordain recommends eating whole, natural foods rather than processed foods. Avoid or greatly reduce your intake of sugars and refined carbohydrates, such as white bread, and high-fat dairy products. Get plenty of omega-3 fats from fish, plant foods such as greens and flax, and/or fish oil supplements. rift gold Eat plenty of lean protein, such as skinless chicken and grass-fed beef. Replace saturated fats with monounsaturated fats such as olive oil and canola oil. Avoid trans fats--found in many packaged baked goods and hard margarine--entirely. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables.

Exercise
Cordain advocates exercising daily, preferably outdoors, varying your routines among aerobic, strength and stretching exercises.

Benefits
The Paleolithic diet resembles other reduced-carbohydrate diets that studies have shown may help promote weight loss and protect against heart disease, diabetes and other "diseases of civilization." RIFT Platinum A small Swedish study reported in the July, 2009 "Cardiovascular Diebetology" showed that Paleolithic diets may reduce cardiovascular risk factors in diabetics.

Cautions
The Paleolithic Diet is low in vitamin D and calcium. Promoters of the diet suggest taking a vitamin D supplement. Meat-heavy diets can be high in saturated fat, which has been linked to an increased risk of heart disease. TERA Gold And eating a lot of fish could expose you to environmental toxins such as mercury and PCBs. Fish oil supplements are distilled to remove contaminants

William and Kate Invite Ex-Flames to Royal Wedding

The opportunity to watch your ex walk down the aisle with someone else would usually be met with a "hell no," TERA Gold but that's simply not the case when it comes to Prince William and Kate Middleton's poised and proper former flames.

The official guest list for the event of the year has been leaked, and according to the UK's Daily Mail, six of the guests are Prince William and Middleton's former flames.

Before Middleton began dating the young prince, her heart at St. Andrews belonged to Rupert Finch, RIFT Platinum who will have the chance to congratulate his ex-girlfriend after her royal nuptials. But Kate isn't the only party guilty of including her exes in the big day -- Prince William has invited all of his ex-girlfriends to see him tie the knot with Middleton. We have a feeling there will be a cacophony of heavy sighs as the couple says "I do" with a chorus of "that could have been me."

But Jecca Craig, reportedly the prince's first love, according to the Daily Mail, rift gold may not be among the latter group. She will attend the ceremony with her new beau, Captain Philip Kaye, who was also given a gold-leafed invite. William's once intended bride (in a modern spin on arranged marriage), Davina Duckworth-Chad, will also be in attendance with her husband.

Between the couple, they have included six ex-loves on their 350 plus-person guest list. RIFT Platinum But enough with the blue bloods -- of the celebrity set, William and his future bride have invited David and Victoria Beckham and Guy Ritchie. Ritchie's ex, Madonna, was not lucky enough to receive a royal invite.

President Obama and First Lady Michelle are also among those who won't be rubbing elbows with the chosen few at wedding. Although, ever the poised politician's wife, Rift Gold Michelle Obama has repeatedly said that they are not acquainted with the couple, so why would they be invited?

But with live streams and global broadcasts, we can all feel like we're part of the big day.

More Than Half of Men May Be Infected With HPV, Study Finds

About 50 percent of men in the general population may unknowingly be infected with the human papillomavirus, which causes cervical and other cancers, researchers say.

Researchers at the H Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute in Tampa recruited men ranging in age from 18 to 70 living in Brazil,Rift Gold Mexico and the United States who were HIV negative and had no history of cancer. Experts assessed participants every six months for a little more than two years to monitor the progression of HPV infection in men.

Scientists found that HPV infection was associated with having a high number of lifetime female or male sexual partners and the effectiveness of treatment of the infection decreased in men with a considerable number of partners. In addition to being the No.RIFT Platinum 1 cause of cervical cancer in women, HPV has also been linked to head, neck, throat, mouth, anal and penile cancer in men.

The median duration of HPV infection was around 7.5 months for any HPV virus and a little more than a year for those with HPV 16.

U.S. vaccine advisers have already recommended HPV vaccines for girls and young women, rift goldbut now experts are trying to decide if boys and men should be vaccinated as well.

"The greater the proportion of the population that is vaccinated, both males and females, the greater the total reduction in infection in the community," Dr. Anna Giuliano, study author and chairwoman of the Department of Cancer Epidemiology at the Moffitt Cancer Center, told AOL Health. "Communities with higher proportions of vaccinated individuals will experience more dramatic and faster declines in both infection and diseases caused by HPV infections."

But some worry the vaccine is too costly to justify its use in men and that it may not make a difference in infection rates. RIFT Platinum"We can't say for certain if vaccinating males will decrease HPV infections in female partners," Dr. Debbie Saslow, director of breast and gynecological cancers at the American Cancer Society, told AOL Health.

Mathematical modeling information from the American Cancer Society indicates that if vaccine coverage is high, vaccination of males in addition to females will offer little added benefit in preventing HPV-related cervical disease.

Unlike the HIV virus, which is transmitted through semen, the HPV virus is transferred through skin-to-skin contact. In addition, HPV is very common and is easily transmissible.

"If the girls were already vaccinated, it wouldn't matter if the men [were] vaccinated or not,"TERA Gold says Saslow, who referenced an Australian study showing a decrease in HPV when 90 percent of females and no males had been vaccinated.

"Each year more women are being vaccinated for the virus," says Saslow. "We've seen the numbers go up, but we don't know how high they'll go."

Saslow says one of the big drivers to determine male HPV vaccination recommendations depends on the vaccination rates of females and if those rates are effectively preventing cervical and other cancers. According to Saslow, there are more than 100 different types of HPV but only 15 of them can cause genital cancers.

Study: Gallstones Linked to Early Death, Heart Disease

People who have had gallstones may be at risk for an early death, as well as other diseases,Rift Gold a new study found.

People with gallstones are more likely to die within 20 years of being diagnosed. The diagnosis also increases the risk of death from heart disease or cancer, Reuters reports.

The scientists did note that the gallstones themselves do not appear to cause cancer or heart disease,RIFT Platinum but that gallstones and other diseases may stem from the same cause.

"People with gallstones may have an abnormal balance of fats in their body, including cholesterol, although there's no clear relationship between gallstone disease per se and high cholesterol," Dr. rift goldPhilip Barie, professor of surgery and public health at Weill Cornell Medical College in New York, who was not involved in the study, told Reuters.

For the study, researchers examined the medical records of more than 14,000 people between the ages of 20 and 74. RIFT PlatinumAbout one in 14 had gallstones, and one in 20 had their gallbladders removed between 1988 and 1994.

Heart disease was the cause of death for slightly less than one in five people diagnosed with gallstones, as opposed to one in 20 people who had never had gallstones. TERA GoldCancer took the lives of one in 10 people with gallstones, but only one in 25 without the disease.

To reduce risks of heart disease and other health problems, people with gallstones should stick to low fat diets, Barie said. The study was published in the journal Gastroenterology.

Israel

Israel is a country in the Middle East, bounded on the north by Lebanon, on the east by Syria and Jordan, on the south by the Gulf of Aqaba, and on the west by Egypt and the Mediterranean Sea.

Jerusalem is the capital city. The population of approximately 6 million includes Israeli settlers in the West Bank, in the Israeli- occupied Golan Heights, in the Gaza Strip, and in East Jerusalem. About 80 percent of the population is Jewish; the remainder is mostly Arab. The three broad Jewish groupings are the Ashkenazim, or Jews who came to Israel mainly from Europe, North and South America, South Africa, and Australia; the Sephardim, who trace their origin to Spain, Portugal, and North Africa; and Eastern or Oriental Jews, who descend from ancient communities in Islamic lands. The major religious denominations are Judaism, Islam, Christianity, and Druze. Hebrew, Arabic, Russian, and English are widely spoken.

Israel has a technologically advanced market economy, with substantial government participation. Its natural resources are limited. However, Israel has intensively developed its agricultural and industrial sectors over the last decades. It is largely self-sufficient in terms of food, except for grains. Leading exports include diamonds, hightechnology equipment, rift gold and agricultural products. Israel’s account deficits are usually covered by large transfer payments from abroad and by foreign loans, especially from the United States. Israel’s economy grew rapidly in the early 1990s, due to the influx of Jewish immigrants from the former Soviet Union and the opening of new markets at the end of the cold war. The economic growth, however, began slowing in 1996, when the government imposed tighter fiscal and monetary policies. In 1948, after fifty years of efforts by the Zionist movement (founded at the end of the nineteenth century by Theodore Herzl) to establish a sovereign nation as a homeland for Jews, Jewish settlers in the territory formerly called Palestine were able to declare the independence of the state of Israel. Fighting immediately ensued between the Jews and the Palestinian Arabs, who were helped by neighboring Arab states. With the Israelis victorious, many of the Arabs who lived in Palestine were forced to flee. They became refugees, living in the West Bank, the Gaza Strip, Lebanon, and elsewhere. Those Arabs who remained behind became a minority within the now predominantly Jewish state of Israel.

Since its independence, Israel has been in an intermittent state of war with neighboring Arab countries over territories such as the Sinai Peninsula, the Gaza Strip, the Golan Heights, and the formerly Jordaniancontrolled West Bank of the Jordan River, including East Jerusalem.

In 1979, Egyptian President Anwar Sadat and Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin signed a treaty under which Israel was to return the Sinai to Egypt. This led to a permanent peace with Egypt. Despite Iraqi missile attacks against Israel, Israel refrained from entering the Gulf War in 1990–1991. In 1994, Israel signed a nonbelligerency agreement with Jordan, and in 1995,rift gold Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin and Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Chairman Yasser Arafat signed the historic Israeli-Palestinian Interim Agreement on the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, broadening Palestinian self-government. The assassination of Prime Minister Rabin by a right-wing Jewish radical in November 1995 climaxed the bitter national debate over where the peace process was leading, and led to further peace negotiations sponsored by the United States. Currently the PLO and Israel share control of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, and negotiations continue on the subject of a permanent peace settlement and sovereignty over these areas.

Israel is a parliamentary democracy. The unicameral Parliament—the Knesset—enacts laws and elects the president every five years. The prime minister exercises executive power. The independent judicial system includes both secular and religious courts.

Norway

The Kingdom of Norway is situated in northwest Europe, on the Scandinavian Peninsula, bounded on the east by Sweden, on the northeast by Finland and Russia, on the south by the North Sea, and on the west by the Atlantic Ocean. Oslo is the capital city. The population of approximately 4.4 million is largely made up of Norwegians. However, rift gold in recent years, Norway increasingly has become home to a number of immigrants, foreign workers, and asylum seekers coming from various part of the world. In addition to immigrants, the Lapps constitute a cultural minority (about 20,000 people) living in the far north. The official language is Norwegian, but Lapp, also called Sami, is also spoken in the northern areas. The Evangelical Lutheran Church is the state church, although freedom of religion is practiced. Once part of the Danish Kingdom, after the Napoleonic wars Norway was unified with Sweden. In 1905, Norway achieved independence. After World War II, Norway became active in promoting peace and it was one of the founding members of the North Atlantic Pact and of the United Nations. In addition, the Norwegian Parliament is responsible for electing the five members of the Nobel Committee that award the Nobel Prize each year to champions of peace.

The Kingdom of Norway is a constitutional monarchy. King Harald V is the head of state. The prime minister and the State Council are invested with the executive power. The legislative power is represented by the unicameral Parliament. The constitution provides for the independence of the judiciary. The Kingdom of Norway has an advanced economy. Oil, gas, metal, shipbuilding, and manufacturing comprise the major parts of the economy. In general, Norwegians have a high standard of living.

The constitution provides the citizens with all their fundamental human rights, and the government respects them in practice. The judiciary system is highly effective and deals promptly with violations of the law. Prison conditions meet minimum international standards, and visits by international human rights monitors are not restricted. The government cooperates with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and other humanitarian organizations in providing assistance to asylum seekers. In 1998, the government granted asylum to 1,214 refugees. Moreover, 1,813 persons received residency permits on humanitarian grounds. Women are very active in Norwegian political life. Of the 165 members of the Parliament, 60 are women. However, violence against women is widespread. In 1997,rift gold there were 30,000 distress calls made by women to national assistance centers throughout the country. The police efficiently investigate most alleged cases and prosecute the perpetrators of rapes and other abuses. Counseling programs for battered women are funded by the government, and many public and private shelters are available throughout the country. In addition, the 1978 Equal Rights Law protects women against any form of discrimination. The Equal Rights Council has been instituted to enforce this law in practice. The government is also very committed to children’s welfare, and provides free education and health care. However, violence against children is a serious problem.

The government generally enforces constitutional provisions regarding the disabled and their accessibility to public buildings. The government cooperates with several local and international human rights organizations. In 1997, the government appointed a minister of development, cooperation and human rights with the purpose of promoting human rights policies within the country.

Carbohydrates & Blood GlucoseOverview

Overview
Carbohydrates are one of the three classes of macronutrients -- the others are proteins and fats. Humans need macronutrients in relatively large quantities to provide for cellular energy needs and to serve as the building blocks for functional and structural molecules in the body. When you consume carbohydrates, you affect your blood glucose level, which has several ramifications.

Carbohydrates
Nutritional carbohydrates are, TERA Gold in general, made up of one or more monosaccharides, where a monosaccharide is a single sugar ring. The most common and ubiquitous of the monosaccharides is called glucose, a sugar ring consisting of six atoms of carbon, 12 atoms of hydrogen, and six atoms of oxygen. Both sugars, like table sugar, and starches, found in grains and vegetables, fall into the category of carbohydrates.

Sources of Glucose
Because all carbohydrates that you consume are made up of monosaccharides, and because glucose is by far the most common of the monosaccharides, most of the carbohydrates you eat end up providing you with a source of glucose. Starch is made up of long chains of glucose molecules; for instance, and when you consume starch, enzymes in your digestive tract break the glucose molecules apart from one another. Similarly, the sugars you eat almost all contain glucose.

Blood Glucose
After you consume a carbohydrate and your digestive enzymes separate the monosaccharides from one another, RIFT Platinum your intestine absorbs the monosaccharides into the bloodstream. This increases the concentration of glucose in your bloodstream. Glucose in the blood, called blood sugar, has a number of effects upon your body. For instance, as your blood sugar goes up, your pancreas releases the hormone insulin, which signals cells to take up glucose.

Cellular Uptake
Once cells take up glucose, they can burn the sugar for energy, convert it to fat or store it for later use in the form of the carbohydrate glycogen. rift gold A relatively constant blood sugar level helps ensure that all your body cells have regular access to this important source of energy. Cells in the brain, for instance, are particularly sensitive to drops in blood glucose and quickly become energy-deprived.

Fat Storage
Interestingly enough, Rift Gold if your blood sugar goes up too quickly, this can lead to excess fat storage. Sources of very concentrated glucose, including foods with added sugars or starchy foods that don't contain much protein or fiber, lead to rapid increases in blood glucose. This causes the body to send a signal to the cells that encourages them to take up blood glucose and store it as fat. If you're trying to avoid gaining extra body fat, it's best to avoid very sweet or starchy foods that don't contain much protein or fiber.

Fighter vs. Writer: UFC 129 Picks with 'Mayhem' Miller

The last time Jason "Mayhem" Miller and I squared off in a fight prediction contest, we came to an unsatisfying tie over UFC 121. I knew from that moment that we would one day meet again to settle our beef, but I didn't know when.

But looking at the main event for UFC 129 it occurred to me, there may be no one in the world who is more qualified to break this fight down than Miller, who fought both Jake Shields and Georges St. Pierre.

"It's true," Miller sighed when I approached him with the idea. "I guess I am uniquely qualified, since I have been decisioned by both gentlemen."

And just like that, it was on. Let there be no ties this time around...

Georges St. Pierre vs. Jake Shields

Mayhem: GSP by TKO. "We're going to see a better version of the Josh Koscheck fight," Miller said. "He's not going to over-commit with the punches, not going to get taken down. I hope he does get taken down, just so we can see what his abilities are from there. And if there's anything Jake does better than anyone, it's pretty much run across the cage on his knees in order to get a takedown. It'll be interesting to see what happens, but I foresee a lot of sprawls and a lot of jabs from St. Pierre. He might be able to finish the bout in three."
Fowlkes: GSP by decision. Rift Gold If Shields can take him down more than once in five rounds, I'll be surprised. I think St. Pierre keeps it standing and steadily picks Shields apart for the duration. No finish, but it will be clear who the winner is by the time twenty-five minutes is up.

Jose Aldo vs. Mark Hominick

Mayhem: Aldo via TKO. "Hominick isn't the right style to beat Aldo. I think Aldo matches up really well against him. [Aldo] is coming off an injury, and I don't know what his recovery ability is like, but if [Aldo]'s a hundred percent, I think he'll take that one."
Fowlkes: Aldo via TKO. As much as I hate to, I concur completely. Hominick's a tough guy, but if he tries to walk Aldo down like he has with past opponents, he's going to be in trouble. Aldo is faster, more well-rounded, and has superior power. I don't see it going more than two rounds.

Vladimir Matyushenko vs. Jason Brilz

Mayhem: Nobody. In explaining his rationale for what is always a risky move in Fighter vs. Writer, Miller said, "I should be more qualified to talk about this fight because Vladdy was in our room for a little bit, but I don't know enough about his opponent. ...I didn't even see the [Brilz-Nogueira] fight, I'm embarrassed to say. Every once in a while I'll miss an event, and since the UFC has taken down all the illegal video sites, RIFT Platinum I don't get to catch up." So put Miller down for a non-pick, meaning he only scores if it's a draw, or gets scratched from the card. Amazingly (okay, infuriatingly), this approach has been successful for other fighters in the past.
Fowlkes: Brilz via decision. These guys are so evenly matched that it's a tough fight to pick, and mostly I just hope they don't spend the whole fight trading positions in the clinch. But in the end, I have to go with Brilz's durability and punching power.

Lyoto Machida vs. Randy Couture

Mayhem: Machida via decision. rift gold "I think Machida, after that last loss, is just really determined, so this is kind of a passing of the torch. Of course I want Randy to win. My heart wants it. But I feel like the footwork will be too much for him to deal with. One thing Machida does better than anyone is tag and run away."
Fowlkes: Couture via decision. RIFT Platinum You know what? Screw this. I'm not going to have this be one of those prediction contests where we agree on every single pick. I'm picking the ageless wonder to shock the world one last time by suffocating Machida in the clinch for three rounds. Also, did you guys see Steven Seagal getting in the background of all the photos with Machida at the weigh-ins? C'mon son. I can't support that.

Ben Henderson vs. Mark Bocek

Mayhem: Bocek via submission. TERA Gold "That little ginger's mean. He has the best jiu-jitsu in the division, and he might just go in there and pull off a shocker."
Fowlkes: Bocek via submission. Agree on all counts. Bocek is much better than many people realize, and I even like his chances to tap out (or choke out) the seemingly unsubmitable Henderson.
