Study: Gallstones Linked to Early Death, Heart Disease

People who have had gallstones may be at risk for an early death, as well as other diseases,Rift Gold a new study found.

People with gallstones are more likely to die within 20 years of being diagnosed. The diagnosis also increases the risk of death from heart disease or cancer, Reuters reports.

The scientists did note that the gallstones themselves do not appear to cause cancer or heart disease,RIFT Platinum but that gallstones and other diseases may stem from the same cause.

"People with gallstones may have an abnormal balance of fats in their body, including cholesterol, although there's no clear relationship between gallstone disease per se and high cholesterol," Dr. rift goldPhilip Barie, professor of surgery and public health at Weill Cornell Medical College in New York, who was not involved in the study, told Reuters.

For the study, researchers examined the medical records of more than 14,000 people between the ages of 20 and 74. RIFT PlatinumAbout one in 14 had gallstones, and one in 20 had their gallbladders removed between 1988 and 1994.

Heart disease was the cause of death for slightly less than one in five people diagnosed with gallstones, as opposed to one in 20 people who had never had gallstones. TERA GoldCancer took the lives of one in 10 people with gallstones, but only one in 25 without the disease.

To reduce risks of heart disease and other health problems, people with gallstones should stick to low fat diets, Barie said. The study was published in the journal Gastroenterology.
